Welcome to "The Wooly Woods" of West Virginia. Home of Wanda V. Bartholow, "Handspinner" and Ralph W. Bartholow, "Handyman" where the "Barter System" is alive and well. Come on in and take a look around. See something you like? Don't have the cash? LET"S TRADE!
I've been crocheting for about 50 years and about 17 years ago, I took up handspinning. I learned to harvest wool and mohair and process it for spinning. It's a lot of work and very time consuming. The spinning of the yarn, however, I find to be a great stress reliever. Then about 10 years ago, I taught myself how to knit. Just recently, we purchased a small floor loom and I plan to learn to weave.
When we moved here, we got a few sheep and a couple of Angora goats but we had to get out of the sheep and Angora business due to difficulty of finding someone to shear them. Circumstances arranged for us to get into dairy goats. I have made goat milk cheese and soap. My favorite dairy goat is the LaMancha, but my favorite goat milk comes from the Saanen.
My husband is a military retiree. When we first bought this place, my husband had to do all the plumbing and electrical work before we could move in. After we had been here for awhile, he became a self-employed handyman. In between his work for others, he has put up fence and built shelters for all the animals. Now that he no longer works outside the home, he is putting an addition on the back of the house.
March 2010 Update.
I still crochet, knit and spin when I have the time in between operating my 3 PTR sites (Angel Emails, Mountain Mama Mail and Pets Paid Mail), listing items with different swap sites (Listia, PaperBackSwap, SwapACD, SwapADVD, SwapItGreen, SwapTree and TitleTrader) and trying to keep up with my personal sites (WindyB's, WindyB's Online Mini Mall and WindyB's Spam-Free Internet Advertising).
We're down to only a dozen goats now, only 3 of which are being milked.
My husband has finished the addition on the back of the house plus put up a carport.
We have pictures at Webshots that can be downloaded for use as wallpaper or screensavers.
